Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol
The Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol (FNBP) is a nonprofit team of highly trained volunteer patrollers dedicated to winter backcountry safety and emergency response.
Our primary service area is Flathead County, but we respond throughout Northwest Montana — and beyond when circumstances call for it. Whether assisting local search and rescue teams, supporting avalanche response, or providing public education, our mission is simple: serve the mountain community with skill, preparedness, and integrity.

us better
The best way to get started with Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol is to attend one of our monthly meetings. It’s a great opportunity to meet current members, learn about training requirements, and see if patrol is a good fit for you.
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month (October–April) at 7:00 PM
601 Spokane Avenue
Whitefish, MT 59937
(Downstairs meeting room)
We’d love to meet you.
Becoming a Member
Becoming part of FNBP starts with showing up.
Prospective members attend meetings, pay annual dues, and enter as candidates. Candidates are welcomed into training opportunities and educational programs while working toward full patroller status.
To become a full Patroller, members complete required educational and skills standards established by the National Ski Patrol and FNBP. These standards ensure that every patroller is prepared to operate safely and effectively in complex winter environments.
All required training opportunities are provided at no additional cost to dues-paying members.
We ask candidates who wish to remain active to make steady progress toward certification — not only for personal growth, but for the safety and strength of the entire team.
The best place to start is to come to a meeting to learn more about the group and see if it’s right for you. Also complete the volunteer application below.
